one more thing ...
I found a Japanese USB keyboard (probably from an old iMac) in the trash, and took it home, so I've been making a bit of an effort to type using the Japanese keyboard characters instead of using the English letters to type in the sound of the characters. We'll see how it goes. I've already learned the locations of some of the more common characters.
